What can exercise do for your health?
Exactly how beneficial is exercise to your health? Regular exercise has proven to have many positive effects on a person’s life. Exercise has the capacity to change an average couch potato into a leaner and healthier body builder. It can help anyone to stay healthy and live a much longer life. Frequent exercise has the ability to greatly improve one’s overall health by sharpening the mind, increasing muscle strength and expanding social skills.
Perhaps the most obvious transformation from exercise is the improvement of physical fitness. With constant exercise the muscles will slowly rip apart, but with proper rest the muscles will begin to develop and eventually grow. One key and very important muscle is the heart, so like any other muscles, the heart gets stronger with exercise. As doctor Hinkle explains, “As the heart get stronger, it works with less strain and effort. The heart is able to pump more blood rich with oxygen and nutrients to the body, and it more efficiently removes waste, such as carbon dioxide and heat, from the body.” Still, some may argue that exercise damages the muscles and bones. Excessive exercise can lead to injuries, depression, heart strokes and possibly long lasting physical harm (Allen). However, it’s all about control. It’s about analyzing the routine and acknowledging limits. With reasonable exercise one is sure to develop a healthy heart and body.
Having ripped arms and a stronger chest are not the only benefits that exercise provides. Working-out also gives mental benefits that affect one’s health. When involve in exercise, the mind takes a short trip. It travels to place where problems can be solved and even prevent new ones from rising. Any negative feelings or lazy thoughts that are still lingering by are instantly removed. Frequent exercise energizes the brain, leaving a clear head and a boost in concentration skills. In addition, as emotional health improves, self-confidence and social skills improve as well. Being able to meet new people at the gym, sport events, or fitness clubs, are all benefits that help to expand social network. Meeting new people at the gym is a great way towards establishing new friendships and developing a stronger social network (Kulas). In some cases, too much exercise can have the opposite effects on the brain and lifestyle. As physician Diranian explains, “A person who over-trains may be constantly frustrated and stressed. Over exercising can severely affect performance at work, school, and even relationships. It can turn anyone from a bright and friendly guy into a depressed and irritable person. In order to stay perfectly healthy and avoid over-training one should simply be organized. Very similar to when trying to avoid injuries, one must make sure to know his limit in order to prevent addiction. With a reasonable and realistic amount of exercise one will definitely be on the road to healthier and longer life.
